Tips For Engagement Photo Outfits
“Help! What am I supposed to wear to my engagement session?!” This is hands down one of the most common questions I get from my couples, and I totally get it!! Choosing what to wear can feel like a lot of pressure, especially when you want to love how you look in your photos. So I put this together to give you some simple tips and a little inspiration as you start planning your outfits!
1. Don’t Be Afraid To Dress It Up
Now is the time to really go all out for your images!! If you’ve been eyeing that long, flowy dress or something a little more elevated, this is your moment. There is no such thing as being “too dressed up” for your engagement session, so have fun with it and lean into that extra energy! If you want to glam it up without spending a ton, Rent the Runway is a great option to try something new and feel amazing in it.

2. Coordinate – Don’t Match!
When picking out your outfits, focus on coordinating instead of matching exactly. Trying to find the exact same color rarely works anyway, especially across different styles of clothing! Choosing colors that complement each other will make your images look more natural on camera and add more depth and interest to your images.

3. Flatter Your Features
Everyone, yes EVERYONE, has an area they feel a little self-conscious about. Taking a few minutes to think about what makes you feel your best can make such a difference in your photos. If there’s something you’d rather not highlight, choose pieces that help you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows in every single photo!!

4. Make Sure Your Styles Match
You want your outfits to feel cohesive in how formal they are. If one of you is dressed up and the other is super casual, it can feel a little disconnected in your photos. Most of my couples bring two outfits to their session, one a little more dressed up and one more relaxed. It gives you a great variety in your gallery and keeps everything feeling balanced and intentional.

5. Accessorize
Accessories are such a fun way to add extra dimension to your photos! Belts, scarves, jewelry… I love them all!! They add visual interest and can even help with posing if you’re not sure what to do with your hands. You can also bring something like a bouquet for a softer look… or your dog, which I will always fully support!! 😂

6. Be You And Have Fun With It!
At the end of the day, these are your photos and they should feel like you. Not a version of you that you think you’re supposed to be. If you’re not a dress person but feel amazing in a romper, wear the romper!! Don’t get caught up in what you see online or what other people are doing. Have fun with it, lean into your style, and let your personalities shine through!
