Engagement Photo Shoot Prep

How To Get Ready To Have An Awesome Session!

Having your picture taken can be intimidating, even if it’s just a friend snapping a quick photo on your phone. You want your outfit to be laying just right, your hair to be behaving, and someone making sure there’s no lipstick on your teeth! When it comes to your engagement photos, you’re even more focused on them being perfect, and prepping for them can become a little overwhelming.

Never fear! I am sharing my top tips to make your engagement session preparation a little more manageable!!

1. Don’t try to match each other

Pick outfits and accessories that coordinate instead. You want them to come from the same color palette, but you should each wear a different dominant color. For example, if you’re wearing a blush dress with nude heels, then he could choose a navy suit coat over a white shirt and pair it with a blush tie or pocket square. So each of you has your own dominant color but both are still incorporating a few touches of the color palette.

2. Bring an extra outfit

Most couples like to start out in a dressier option before moving to one that is more casual. This will give you tons of variety in your photos between the two different looks! Plus then you’re set and ready for date night once your photos are over!!

3. Make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing

You don’t want to be worried about pulling it up, down, sideways throughout the session. In my experience, most women have an area of their body their self-conscious about in photos. Recognizing that and picking clothes that are flattering is key to ensuring you love the way you look in your photos!

4. Make sure to empty your pockets

You don’t want to be able to see the outline of keys, phones, or anything else you might be carrying in your outfit. This is especially true for guys! I recommend the ladies bring a purse that’s slightly bigger that is able to hold whatever you need while we’re doing photos.

5. Be on time

Even better, arrive 10 minutes early! The sun is only out for so long, so if you’re late it cuts out the time that we have available to take pictures. Plus being early gives you the chance to get your stuff settled and do the final touches on your outfits, like guys putting on their dress shirt (no wrinkles on the drive!) and you slipping into your heels. Then you don’t feel rushed to get out of the car and started right away.
