Tips For Choosing A Wedding Photographer
I truly believe choosing your wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make while planning your big day. Think about it, you’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost any other vendor! From emails and consultations to planning sessions, your engagement session, the wedding itself, and even album design afterward, it’s a relationship that spans months (sometimes years!).
That’s why it’s so important to choose a photographer you genuinely like and connect with. Someone who gets you, makes you feel comfortable, and who you trust to capture every meaningful moment!
So after scrolling through endless websites, sending inquiries, and chatting with potential photographers, how do you know if you’ve found “the one”? Here are five things to consider:

1. Do you connect with them?
You’ll be spending hours with your photographer on one of the biggest days of your life, so it’s important that you actually enjoy being around them! Ask yourself: do you feel relaxed and comfortable in their presence? Do you click with their personality? Every photographer isn’t the right fit for every couple, and that’s okay. The key is finding someone you can genuinely see yourself hanging out with for 10+ hours on your wedding day.
2. Do you love their work?
Photographers are artists, each with a unique style. When you look at their portfolio, does it align with the vision you have for your wedding photos? Does their work feel consistent from wedding to wedding? Don’t hesitate to ask to see a full gallery, not just the highlights you see on Instagram or their website. This will show you how they capture an entire wedding day, from the first look to the last dance!

3. Do you know what to expect?
Transparency is everything! Your photographer should clearly explain what’s included in your collection, when you’ll receive your images, how many you’ll receive, and how they’ll be delivered. When expectations are clear from the start, you can relax and enjoy your day knowing exactly what’s coming.
4. Are they prepared?
There’s so much more to wedding photography than showing up with a camera! Ask how they back up your images, whether they use dual memory card slots, and if they have backup gear ready to go. Every professional has their own systems, but they should be able to confidently explain how they’ll keep your photos safe!

5. Ask for help!
When in doubt, lean on your community! Talk to married friends and family to hear about their experiences. Ask your planner, florist, DJ, or makeup artist who they love working with. Vendors often have the inside scoop on which photographers consistently show up, deliver, and make the day fun!
You don’t have to have all these questions answered in the first conversation, but they’re a great starting point for building an open, honest dialogue. In the end, choosing your photographer is about more than just pretty photos, it’s about trusting someone to tell your love story in a way that feels authentic to you!
