While there are SO many amazing aspects of running my own business, one of the sad truths is business ownership can be a lonely endeavor. When I first started out, I had the idea in my head that I needed to be an expert on everything, had to do everything on my own, to look and feel successful. Boy, I learned quickly I couldn’t have been more wrong! I don’t know about you, but studying tax law is NOT my idea of a good time. So once I figured out it takes a village to put together a couple’s special day, I started reaching out to say hello! One of my favorite ways to get to know new wedding vendors is to sit down and chat over coffee. While that’s not possible right now, I’ll take my cup of coffee and enjoy some virtual chatting instead!!
So in this Vendor Spotlight series, I’ll spend some time introducing you to the amazing vendors in the wedding industry I am lucky enough to call a part of my community. It’s the perfect way to brag on them plus it gives me the chance to provide my current and future couples with details to help build the vendor team of their dreams!
Indianapolis Wedding Planner | Lisa Norris Events
I met Lisa through a mutual friend before I was lucky enough to work at a wedding with her in August 2019. To say we hit it off instantly would be quite the understatement! Lisa has an amazing eye for details and I think we could spend hours talking wedding colors, florals, trends, and so much more! Even better though, we both have fur babies we love to talk about and look over pictures of! So read on to learn more about Lisa and her business and see some of the stunning work we put together with an amazing vendor team back in March!
Tell me a bit about your business! How did you get started in the wedding industry?
After graduating from Purdue University in Hospitality Management, I had many experiences working in catering, event planning, and venue management. It wasn’t until I was working face-to-face with couples at a local wedding venue that I developed my true passion for wedding planning. I soon realized that it’s exactly what I was meant to do. I loved helping couples pull together their details and making the magic happen on wedding days. I decided to start Lisa Norris Events in 2016 and never looked back! I feel lucky and very grateful for all the beautiful weddings I’ve been trusted to coordinate (75 and counting!)
What do you love about being a wedding planner?
What I love about wedding planning are the many hats I get to wear. There is never a boring moment when working with so many creative, diverse, and unique weddings. Sounding board, trusted source, inspirational resource, bringer of the zen, problem solver, orchestrator, and time manager are few of my titles that come with wedding planning!
What should couples know about your process and about working with you?
Some couples think that if they hire a wedding planner, they won’t have any control over their wedding. Contrary to that though, I’m here to help you achieve YOUR vision while keeping your style and budget at the forefront of planning. Throughout the planning process and wedding day, I am your advocate. I will respect your wishes and make sure everything is exactly as you would want it.
What is your favorite part about working with couples as they plan their special day?
My favorite part of my job is being a part of one of the biggest days of the clients’ lives. I get to meet their families and closest friends. Filled with special moments, the energy on the wedding day is unmatched by anything I’ve ever experienced. Each one is uniquely exciting, emotional, and perfect!
How early should couples reach out to book you to ensure you’re available for their wedding day?
Most often, couples hire me for our Wedding Management package, also commonly referred to as “day of” coordination. While “day of” is in the title, I get to work way before your actual wedding day, typically 3 – 6 months out. Worst case scenario: I’ve come on board within three weeks’ notice. Best case: I’ve had couples hire me a year in advance. Not only will I attend pre-planning meetings with you, but I will also help with referrals, double-check your contracts, create your wedding day timeline, and make sure every detail is covered.
What is one piece of advice you would give to couples for their wedding day?
Pinterest is great for brainstorming wedding planning advice and ideas. Pinterest is also great at overwhelming you. Once you’ve nailed down your details, stop fussing, and trust your instincts! Don’t compare your wedding to others or what you see online. Each wedding is unique and reflective of you as a couple!
