4 Reasons Why It’s Important
“Do we really need to do an engagement session??” I get this question all the time when talking with couples, and I totally get it! If you’ve never done professional photos before, it can feel like just another thing to add to your wedding to-do list.
But almost every couple who is unsure at first ends up saying the same thing afterward… they are SO glad they did it!!
I truly believe your engagement session is one of the most important parts of your experience with your wedding photographer. Not just because of the photos you get, but because of how it sets you up for your wedding day. Here are a few reasons why I always recommend it!
1. It helps with nerves
I hear this all the time. “We’re awkward in photos” or “We have no idea what we’re doing.” And honestly? That is completely normal!!
Most of the nerves come from simply not knowing what to expect. Am I going to know what to do? What if I do it wrong?
That’s exactly why engagement sessions are so helpful. You get to experience what it’s like to be in front of the camera before your wedding day. I’ll guide you through everything so nothing feels confusing or awkward, and you’ll start to understand how I pose and direct you in a way that feels natural.
By the time your wedding day rolls around, you’re not starting from scratch. You already know what to expect, which makes everything feel so much more relaxed and easy!
2. We get to know each other
This is one of my favorite parts of the whole experience!!
I never want to show up on your wedding day as a complete stranger. That feels awkward for everyone 😂 Your engagement session gives us the chance to spend time together, get comfortable, and actually build a connection before your wedding.
You get to see how I work, how I guide you, and how I keep things fun and easy. I get to see how you interact as a couple and what feels most natural for you.
So when your wedding day comes, it doesn’t feel like you’re being photographed by someone you just met. It feels like you have someone there who already knows you and how to bring out the best in you!
3. You’ll actually use the photos
One of my favorite things is seeing all the different ways couples use their engagement photos! From save the dates and wedding websites to decor at your reception, there are so many ways to incorporate them into your wedding day. And beyond that, they become photos you’ll always have to look back on this season of your life.

4. It’s actually fun!
I know this might be the part that’s hardest to believe at first 😂 but it really is!!
Your engagement session is basically a built-in date night. You get dressed up, spend time together, and just enjoy being in this exciting season of your life.
A lot of couples end up going to dinner or doing something fun afterward, which makes the whole experience feel even more special. And by the end of it, most people are saying, “Wait… that was actually really fun!”
