While there are SO many amazing aspects of running my own business, one of the sad truths is business ownership can be a lonely endeavor. When I first started out, I had the idea in my head that I needed to be an expert on everything, had to do everything on my own, to look and feel successful. Boy, I learned quickly I couldn’t have been more wrong! I don’t know about you, but studying tax law is NOT my idea of a good time. So once I figured out it takes a village to put together a couple’s special day, I started reaching out to say hello! One of my favorite ways to get to know new wedding vendors is to sit down and chat over coffee. While that’s not possible right now, I’ll take my cup of coffee and enjoy some virtual chatting instead!!
So in this Vendor Spotlight series, I’ll spend some time introducing you to the amazing vendors in the wedding industry I am lucky enough to call a part of my community. It’s the perfect way to brag on them plus it gives me the chance to provide my current and future couples with details to help build the vendor team of their dreams!
The Barn At Sioux-Monti | Idaville, IN
It’s easy to see a new wedding venue pop up around you and say “oooooo PRETTY!” What photographer doesn’t love seeing venue owners making renovation decisions that are a dream, photo-wise?! What truly draws me in though is learning the heart of the venue and their story. I’ve been following Hannah and JT on Instagram for awhile now as they finish renovations around their venue. I just can’t help but love home renovation stuff! From their posts I just knew I had to learn more about their story and today I’m so excited to be sharing it with you!!
Tell me a bit about your business! What inspired you to start your business?
What inspires us the most is the heart of Sioux-Monti’s story. Many people hear our story and say “oh wow! This was destined to be.” We can’t help but feel the same way! What a blessing it has been to take this journey through life as a couple, as the third generation on this farm, and now as venue owners!
Our Story: After World War 2 a young soldier who had been stationed in Germany returned to the states to marry an Army Nurse he had fallen in love with. Times were much different then, but after being married they received a wedding gift that would change their lives. They received a small farm where they would raise five children and build a life of their own. The soldier was originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota while his new wife was from the small town of Monticello, Indiana. This is where the name “Sioux-Monti” comes from and where their love story began!
We are now the third generation to own Sioux-Monti. We stood hand in hand and started our lives together on the same land that Ward “bud” Johnson and his sweet wife Betty also built their lives. While we love sharing stories & the history of this family farm – Our hearts are full when we think of the many couples who will be married here & go on to build their lives together as well.
Our journey towards becoming venue owners has been an incredible experience and blessing! We couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to share Sioux-Monti’s story and create a legacy of our own!
What is your mission?
Our mission is to help small town couples create their dream wedding by going above and beyond to connect them with unique & talented vendors, provide step-by-step guides, and ensure their booking experience is simple & enjoyable!
What can a bride and groom expect when booking with you? What do you want them to get out of an experience at Sioux-Monti?
From the time we receive an inquiry to the moment you share your vows; We hope our couples know how much of an honor it is to be a part of their story and share each step of the journey with them towards their wedding day. It’s so important to us that our couples feel confident that as young venue owners we will go above and beyond to ensure their experience is simple, enjoyable, and absolutely stunning!
How early should couples reach out to book you to ensure you’re available for their wedding day?
We typically book out as early as 8-12 months in advance, however fall dates are our most popular and oftentimes get booked earlier than 12 months out.

What do you feel sets you apart in the wedding industry?
Right now we feel what sets us apart is that we are also newlyweds! We’ve just walked through the wedding planning process ourselves while doing everyday life and feel we’ve been given an opportunity to relate with our couples and the new things they’re experiencing on a deeper level.
What is your favorite part about working with couples as they plan their special day?
Our favorite part is simply getting to know them, their stories, what they’re excited about (or struggling with), as well as things they love! Like iced coffee or their love for dogs – we love making these connections & showing up for our couples in the best way possible!
Are you working on anything fun for this wedding season or next?
We just finished fully renovating the interior of our barn, so we’re very excited to see how each of our couples will make the space uniquely theirs this wedding season. Next year we will move onto phase TWO of FIVE in our five year renovation plan. So! Come hang out with us on Instagram to see what we have up our sleeve next!
If you could give brides and grooms one piece of advice for their wedding, what would it be?
This is coming from my own personal experience, but! If I could give you one piece of advice it’s this: Please! Please! Please! Give yourself grace, give someone else your “list”, and give yourself a moment on wedding day to soak it all in! The day goes by so quickly and you’re pulled in so many different directions, make time for a “you moment”! You DID IT sister.
If you don’t follow The Barn At Sioux-Monti already, head over to their Instagram or Facebook to learn more about them and follow along on their continued renovations!!
Much love friends,
